Came to see Philippe again. It shocked me to see him so frail. Nevertheless, when he saw me, he got up from his chair to hug me welcome. For a while we were alone.
He held my hand. I marvelled how large his palms were in relation to his ravaged body. Large and warm.
Also his eyes were burning and he talked incredibly fast. It was not a secret there was so little time left.
That was when he told me how much he loved me as a friend. And how sorry he was that he wasn't able to say it like this earlier. My eyes welled up.
Why is it that only in moments of agony we dare to tell the unspeakable.
